Recap: Colorado vs. Minnesota

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Brian Dozier went 3-for-6 with a pair of homers as the Minnesota Twins pounded out 18 hits in a 13-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

The second baseman will be one of the participants for Monday's Home Run Derby at Target Field.

Chris Parmelee, Sam Fuld and Eduardo Escobar each drove in two runs for the Twins (44-50), who have won five of six heading into the All-Star break.

Minnesota starter Phil Hughes (10-5) allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out six over five innings.

Justin Morneau and Nolan Arenado each had three hits and an RBI for the Rockies (40-55), who lost the final two contests of this three-game series.

Brett Anderson (0-3), making his first start since April 12 due to a broken left index finger, gave up six runs -- five earned -- on 10 hits with three walks over five innings. He was activated from the 60-day disabled list prior to the game.

"I got through the start healthy, and that's about the only positive," said a disappointed Anderson.

The Twins exploded for five runs in the top of the first. With men on second and third and two outs, Parmelee hit a two-run single to right-center field. Josh Willingham singled before Escobar hit a two-run double to left-center field. Fuld followed with an RBI single.

Colorado got two runs back in the bottom half. Carlos Gonzalez doubled and raced home on Morneau's single to left. Arenado's RBI double to left-center field cut the gap to three.

The Rockies scored two more runs in the second. Wilin Rosario singled, moved to third on DJ LeMahieu's double and crossed the plate on Anderson's sacrifice bunt. Charlie Blackmon's sac fly made it 5-4.

Trevor Plouffe led off the fifth with a triple to right-center field. He scored on LeMahieu's throwing error.

The Rockies got the run back in the home half on Corey Dickerson's RBI groundout.

Minnesota plated a pair of runs in the seventh. Rex Brothers loaded the bases with one out. Fuld hit a sacrifice fly before Adam Ottavino took over on the mound. Parmelee then scored on a passed ball.

Dozier led off the eighth with a homer to left.

The Twins scored four runs off Brooks Brown in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Chris Herrmann's RBI infield single preceded Dozier's three-run homer to left.

"We knew that we had to have offense (against Colorado)," Dozier said. "Our offense had to come alive."

Game Notes
