Recap: Washington vs. Milwaukee

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Scooter Gennett and Khris Davis smacked solo homers as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Washington Nationals, 4-2, in the opener of a three-game set.

Kyle Lohse (10-4) allowed a run on 10 hits over seven innings for the Brewers, who had dropped 11-of-13 heading into the All-Star break.

"We weren't going good for a while," Gennett said. "The second half, it's a fresh start and we're just going to try and play some good baseball and put some wins together."

Jean Segura was back in the lineup for the NL Central leaders after missing the two games before the break following the death of his nine-month-old son. He went 1-for-4.

Stephen Strasburg (7-7) struck out nine, but surrendered four runs on seven hits and a walk over seven frames for Washington, which went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

The Brewers raced out to a 4-0 lead after plating a run in the first, another in the second and two more in the third.

Gennett launched his one-out shot into the front rows of seats to right in the first and Davis belted his homer with one out in the second the opposite way into virtually the same spot.

Gennett worked a two-out walk and Ryan Braun doubled to put runners on second and third in the third before Aramis Ramirez blooped a single to right and bring home Gennett and Braun for Milwaukee's early four-run cushion.

"That was the one that was frustrating," Strasburg said of Ramirez's bloop single. "Not much I could do there."

Washington got a run back in the fourth when Ryan Zimmerman hit a leadoff double and scored two batters later on Ian Desmond's two-bagger to center, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

After Lohse exited, Rob Wooten and Zach Duke combined to toss a scoreless eighth. Francisco Rodriguez served up a leadoff blast to Bryce Harper in the ninth, but recorded the final three outs in succession to notch his 28th save of the season.

Game Notes

Davis' homer was his 16th, while Gennett's was his eighth of the year ... Strasburg's ERA increased to 3.55 on the season.
