Recap: Toronto vs. Texas

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Dan Johnson drove in two runs and Marcus Stroman tossed seven strong innings as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Texas Rangers, 4-1, in the middle test of a three-game set on Saturday.

Melky Cabrera finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and Munenori Kawasaki and Dioner Navarro both hit RBI singles for the Blue Jays, who snapped a three- game skid.

Stroman (5-2) struck out five batters and gave up just four hits with no runs or walks to earn the win.

"It's just exciting to get the win," said Stroman. "Hopefully, it puts us on a roll."

Elvis Andrus brought in the Rangers' lone run during the eighth inning and Dan Robertson supplied two hits for Texas, which is 2-13 in July.

Rangers starter Colby Lewis (6-7) was reached for two runs on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts across five innings in defeat.

"They worked him pretty good, but when he left the game after the fifth inning, we were still in it," said Rangers manager Ron Washington about Lewis.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the fourth. Colby Rasmus got aboard with a single and advanced to third on Stroman's wild pitch. Johnson's double off the right-field wall plated Rasmus.

Two batters later, Anthony Gose bunted towards the mound and beat out the throw to first, placing runners at the corners. After Jose Reyes popped out, Kawasaki's infield single brought in Johnson for a 2-0 lead.

Cabrera and Jose Bautista put runners on the corners with a pair of singles to open the seventh. Navarro stroked an RBI base hit to right and Johnson's run- scoring sacrifice fly to right two batters later extended Toronto's lead to 4-0.

Stroman retired his last twelve batters before reliever Brett Cecil took the mound in the eighth. Cecil walked Rougned Odor and gave up a single to Robinson Chirinos and two batters later, Andrus greeted Dustin McGowan with an RBI single to left.

In the first, outfielder Alex Rios exited the game with a sprained right ankle while swinging at the first pitch he saw. He was replaced by Robertson in right field and is listed as day-to-day.

Game Notes

Rangers designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo is mired in an 0-for-21 slump at the plate as he went 0-for-4 in the game ... Kawasaki extended his hitting streak to seven games ... Toronto has won seven of its last nine meetings with Texas ... The Rangers finished 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven men on base.
