Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Colorado

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordy Mercer's RBI single in the 11th inning gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies in the second game of a three-game set.

In the 11th against Chad Bettis (0-2), Neil Walker singled to start the inning and a sacrifice bunt from Chris Stewart moved Walker into scoring position.

Following a walk to Pedro Alvarez, Mercer smacked a pitch into the gap in left-center, landing well out of reach of a diving Charlie Blackmon for the win.

"I was seeing it well, but (in) those situations you just gotta slow down," said Mercer. "It's so hard because everybody's amped up. (You) take a deep breath, get something to hit and put a good swing on it."

Walker finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Gaby Sanchez also drove in a run for the Pirates, who have won four of their last six.

Charlie Morton gave up two runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts over seven innings. Jared Hughes (5-2) got the win for pitching a scoreless 11th inning.

Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run home run for the Rockies, who have lost their past four. Starter Brett Anderson allowed a run on four hits and a walk with eight strikeouts over seven innings of work.

Colorado All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki left the game after suffering what the team said was a cramp in the tensor fascia latae of his left thigh while running out a groundout to end the third inning.

"It looked like he tweaked a high quad, hip flexor," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss, who said Tulowitzki was "day-to-day" as they wait to see how he feels.

The Pirates got on the board in the fourth inning when Walker doubled with one out and Sanchez followed with a one-hopper over the fence in left for a 1-0 lead.

Colorado didn't get a runner past second base through the first six innings, with Corey Dickerson getting caught stealing second in the fifth inning and Charlie Blackmon getting nabbed to end the sixth.

The Rockies, though, went on top in the seventh as Nolan Arenado doubled to start the inning and Gonzalez followed with a home run just inside the right field pole for a 2-1 lead.

Pittsburgh tied the game in the eighth on Walker's RBI single with the bases loaded and two outs off Tom Kahnle. Travis Snider looked at strike three to end the inning.

Game Notes

Pittsburgh went 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base ... Tyler Matzek pitches for Colorado on Sunday, while Jeff Locke will take the mound for Pittsburgh.
