Recap: San Francisco vs. Pittsburgh

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Francisco Liriano pitched seven effective innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates grabbed a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants in the second of a three-game set.

Liriano (3-7) allowed just one run on four hits with a walk and a season-high 11 strikeouts.

Josh Harrison hit a solo home run and Travis Snider added a two-run shot for the Pirates, who have won their past three games. They are a game behind first-place Milwaukee in the NL Central.

"Our goal is to get better every day ... We played two good ballgames here," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said.

Tim Hudson (8-8) gave up three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out two for the Giants, who matched a season-high with their sixth straight loss. Michael Morse homered in the loss.

"We just can't string together a few hits. We have to find a way. It's tough to go through this," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

Harrison led off the game with his eighth home run of the season, a shot to right. The Pirates made it a 3-0 game in the second as Ike Davis led off with a single and Snider followed with his seventh homer of the season, a blast to right.

Morse led off the second with his 15th home run of the season to get the Giants on the board.

Liriano didn't give up much else after the home run, limiting the Giants to just two singles and a walk before handing the ball off to Tony Watson, who faced the minimum in the eighth thanks to an inning-ending double play by Gregor Blanco.

Mark Melancon pitched around a leadoff single in the ninth to lock down his 20th save of the season.

Game Notes

Liriano improved to 2-1 in three games against the Giants ... Hudson fell to 6-8 in 15 career starts against the Pirates ... The Pirates have won four of five games against the Giants this season.
