Recap: Baltimore vs. Seattle

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Wei-Yin Chen pitched into the eighth inning as the Baltimore Orioles matched a club record in Friday's 2-1 win over the Seattle Mariners at Camden Yards.

Chen (12-3) nearly copied his July 24 outing against the Mariners by limiting them to a run on five hits in 7 1/3 innings. The lefty, who struck out eight, won his personal-best fifth straight start.

The AL East-leading Orioles played their seventh consecutive one-run game, tying the team mark set June 21-29, 1956. They have gone 5-2 during that stretch.

Seattle plugged trade-deadline acquisitions Austin Jackson and Chris Denorfia into its lineup for the opener of this three-game set, looking to jumpstart the offense, but the attack fizzled and wasted a solid start by Roenis Elias (8-9).

Elias, on his 26th birthday, gave up two runs -- one earned -- on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking one.

The Mariners have dropped seven of their last 10 games.

Extra Points: Goodell claims consistency

The very idea of consistency shouldn't be in the eye of the beholder but Roger Goodell attempted to redefine the word in his first public comments since his widely criticized two-game suspension of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice.
