Recap: Cleveland vs. Texas

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Lonnie Chisenhall hit a go-ahead single as part of a two-run sixth inning as Cleveland Indians defeated the Texas Rangers, 2-0, in the middle test of a three-game set.

Indians starter T.J. House struck out seven, scattered three hits and walked two over five scoreless innings for Cleveland, which has won three of its last four games. Scott Atchison (4-0) recorded the win for tossing 1 2/3 frames.

"I thought he did good," Indians manager Terry Francona said of House. "It was an interesting line, the way he got there. So many of the at-bats went five pitches at more. Deep count at-bats, so his pitch count was high. But I think only one ball went to the outfield."

Cody Allen struck out two in a scoreless ninth to notch his 14th save of the year.

Miles Mikolas (1-4) surrendered two runs on five hits and two walks over seven frames for the Rangers, who have dropped five of their last seven contests.

"I threw a lot of strikes, I think," said Mikolas. "A lot of things we worked on in that last bullpen (session), everything started to come together. I felt like I threw a lot of quality strikes. I went right after the hitters."

The Indians didn't put a runner into scoring position until the sixth inning when they broke a scoreless deadlock.

Jason Kipnis singled to begin the sixth, moved to second on a Mike Aviles sacrifice bunt and scampered to third on Michael Brantley's groundout. Carlos Santana was intentionally walked before Kipnis scored on Chisenhall's base hit to right-center. Nick Swisher followed with a single to right to plate Santana for a 2-0 Indians advantage.

Texas, meanwhile, had scoring chances in the second and sixth frames.

J.P. Arencibia led off the second with an infield single and advanced to second on House's throwing error to first. Arencibia was stranded at second, though, as Leonys Martin and Rougned Odor grounded out around a Chris Gimenez strikeout.

The Rangers put runners on second and third with one out in the sixth, but Andrus was tagged out in a rundown following an Arencibia grounder to third. Martin then fanned looking to end the threat.

Game Notes

Slugger Jim Thome officially retired as an Indian on Saturday, signing a one- day contract on the day the Indians unveiled a statue of him at Progressive Field ... Cleveland was 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position, while Texas finished 0-for-9.
