Recap: Houston vs. Toronto

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Carter went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored as the Houston Astros breezed past the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-2, on Saturday.

Jason Castro and Jon Singleton also had three hits and a homer for the Astros, winners in three of four. Singleton's 10th of the year was his first career inside-the-park home run and the first for Houston since Jose Altuve on August 20, 2011.

Altuve finished with two hits and a pair of runs scored to back another strong performance from Brett Oberholtzer, who improved to 4-1 over his last eight starts after an 0-6 start. Oberholtzer (4-7) limited Toronto to two runs while striking out five in seven innings of work.

"(Oberholtzer) did a tremendous job," said Astros manager Bo Porter. "You're talking about a guy who is fearless. He attacks the strike zone."

R.A. Dickey (9-11) was charged with five runs on nine hits to absorb the loss.

It was 2-2 in the fifth inning when Altuve singled with one out. Then with Robbie Grossman at the plate, Dickey's pickoff attempt sailed past Danny Valencia at first, allowing Altuve to advance to third. Valencia's throw to third then skipped away, and the opportunistic Altuve sprinted home for the eventual game-winning run. Carter added a solo homer later in the inning to make it 4-2.

After Grossman robbed Juan Francisco of a two-run homer in the eighth inning by leaping over the wall in right, Castro's two-run shot in the home half off reliever Brett Cecil padded the cushion and Singleton's two-run inside-the- parker put the game out of reach.

Singleton followed L.J. Hoes' single by flying deep to right-center. The ball caromed off the base of the wall as Anthony Gose fell down. Gose hustled and got the ball in quickly, and the relay was in time to get Singleton. An umpire review overturned the call and ruled him safe.

Earlier, Jose Reyes led off the game with a double off the top of the wall in left. Melky Cabrera extended his hit streak to 10 games with a bunt single that advanced Reyes to third, and Nolan Reimold sent a sacrifice fly to center that gave Toronto an early 1-0 lead.

Altuve matched Reyes, doubling to open the bottom of the first. Carter's two-bagger to left plated Altuve, and Singleton scored Carter later in the inning with a single to right.

Jose Bautista's RBI double in the top of the third tied the game at 2-2.
