Recap: Arizona vs. Pittsburgh

Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew McCutchen's RBI single in the eighth sparked a four-run inning and guided the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 8-3 win on Saturday over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Josh Harrison, who finished with a triple shy of the cycle, reached on an infield single to start the eighth and moved to second when Gregory Polanco was interfered with by catcher Miguel Montero. McCutchen then delivered the eventual game-winning single to left-center against reliever Brad Ziegler (4-2).

After Ike Davis grounded out, Polanco and McCutchen scored on Ziegler's throwing error. Brent Morel doubled in the final run before Ziegler was replaced.

Vance Worley was terrific on the mound once again for Pittsburgh, which improved to 5-4 on its 10-game road trip. Worley, who was coming off his first career complete-game, tossed six innings of one-run ball before giving way to a pinch-hitter. Jared Hughes (6-2) got the win for a scoreless seventh.

"Vance gave us a really professional outing," said Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle. "He made pitches when he had to, the ball was moving a lot. He actually got a little sharper as he continued to compete out there."

Arizona starter Chase Anderson matched Worley, yielding a run over six innings, but was betrayed by his bullpen. David Peralta had a two-run homer and drove in all three D-backs' runs.

"(Anderson) threw the ball really good, he's kind of getting into a groove," said Arizona manager Kirk Gibson. "

Harrison put the Pirates on top in the third inning, lifting a solo home run to left for his 10th of the year. Peralta got the run back in the home fifth, lacing a sharp grounder to right for an RBI single.

Gibson, who passed Bob Melvin for most managerial wins in franchise history on Thursday, was ejected in between the second and third innings by home plate umpire Ron Kulpa for arguing a play that was reversed following a video review. Then in the ninth after Pittsburgh took its lead, Randall Delgado was tossed for intentionally hitting McCutchen in the back with a fastball.

The pitch was retaliation for Friday night's unintentional plunking of Diamondbacks star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who landed on the disabled list after taking an Ernesto Frieri pitch off his left hand. Delgado began to leave the mound before Kulpa even signaled that he was ejected, as McCutchen slammed his bat down in anger.

The Pirates took advantage of the situation, putting three more insurance runs across. Russell Martin singled sharply to left-center to plate Harrison, and Morel drove in two with his single to center.

Morel, who came on as a defensive replacement for Pedro Alvarez in the sixth inning, finished 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Peralta's two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth capped the scoring.
