Recap: Oakland vs. Minnesota

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Coco Crisp hit a three-run triple and the Oakland Athletics held off the Minnesota Twins for a 6-5 victory in the second tilt of a four-game set on Friday.

Eric Sogard had a two-run double and Stephen Vogt scored twice for Oakland, which has won 11 straight games against Minnesota.

Scott Kazmir (13-4) earned the win despite allowing five runs with four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Chris Parmelee hit a two-run double and Kennys Vargas finished 2-for-4 for the Twins, who have dropped three straight.

Kyle Gibson (10-9) gave up six runs -- five earned -- on five hits and five walks over five-plus frames in defeat.

Oakland went ahead 4-0 in the fifth. Vogt got aboard with a leadoff walk, moved to second on Sam Fuld's bunt single and advanced to third on first baseman Parmelee's throwing error. Sogard walked to load the bases.

Crisp ripped a bases-clearing triple to deep center to get the A's on the board. Crisp later scored on catcher Kurt Suzuki's passed ball for a 4-0 lead.

"Fortunately I was able to find a gap and knock a few runs in," Crisp said.

The A's tacked on two more runs in the sixth. Josh Reddick started the frame with a walk and Vogt singled. Anthony Swarzek took the mound and both runners moved up on Fuld's groundout. Sogard's liner to right landed for a two-run double.

Minnesota countered with five runs in the seventh. Danny Santana singled and Brian Dozier walked before Trevor Plouffe and Oswaldo Arcia hit RBI singles around a Vargas strikeout. Two batters later, Parmelee's liner rolled down the left-field line and bounced off the glove of Brandon Moss, scoring two runs and ending Kazmir's outing.

Eduardo Nunez greeted Ryan Cook with an RBI double to center, making it a 6-5 game.

Luke Gregerson spun a perfect eighth and Sean Doolittle struck out two in the ninth to earn his 18th save of the season, which is a new franchise record for saves in a season by a left-handed pitcher.

Game Notes

Oakland's bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 28 2/3 innings, setting a franchise record ... The A's have been held scoreless in the first inning in 17 straight games ... Oakland leads the season series, 5-0.

Dorm Report: Rooting for the lesser of two evils

I really do try my best not to hate anyone, seeing as how that word can be thrown around rather easily, which is why it was so tough watching the Florida State-Louisville game on Thursday night.
