Recap: Minnesota vs. Cleveland

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kennys Vargas smacked a solo homer among his three hits and scored two runs, as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Cleveland Indians, 4-1, to salvage the finale of a three-game set.

Phil Hughes (14-8) struck out eight and allowed a run on five hits over seven innings for Minnesota, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

"When you get in good stretches, everything is working for you," said Hughes. "Fortunately right now I am throwing the ball pretty well."

Glen Perkins fired a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his 32nd save of the year.

Corey Kluber (13-7), who was eyeing his seventh straight win, fanned eight, but was touched for three runs on six hits with four walks over seven frames for the Indians. He had been 6-0 with a 1.31 ERA over his last eight starts.

Zach Walters homered in defeat.

"He's taken a lot of good swings," Indians manager Terry Francona said of Walters. "It's been nice having him sit down at the bottom of that order knowing that he's got that in him."

The game was tied 1-1 before the Twins pushed across a pair in the sixth and added another in the eighth to go ahead.

Vargas clubbed a one-out, ground-rule double, Oswaldo Arcia walked and Trevor Plouffe ripped a double down the third-base line to plate Vargas and Arcia for a 3-1 Twins advantage.

Vargas began the eighth with a single and pinch-runner Eduardo Nunez stole second base before scoring on Arcia's double to right to make it 4-1.

Vargas cracked his solo shot into the seats in left with one out in the fourth to open the scoring, but Cleveland got the run back on Walters' two-out solo blast to right in the fifth.

Game Notes

Cleveland has still won seven of its 13 games against Minnesota this season ... Minnesota was 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position, while Cleveland never put a baserunner into scoring position ... Hughes won his fourth straight start.
