Recap: Boston vs. Toronto

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - R.A. Dickey tossed seven-plus effective innings and Jose Bautista cranked a three-run homer, as Toronto took down Boston, 3-1, in the finale of a three-game series.

Dickey (12-12) scattered six hits and one run while striking out four for the Blue Jays, who avoided a sweep.

"To be honest, he had a better knuckleball than I did tonight," said Dickey of Sox reliever Steven Wright. "Our velocities are a little different. We had a light wind at my back, which made it tough to make it move the way I wanted, but it was moving enough to get off the barrels today and I made some big pitches when I needed them."

Xander Bogaerts posted two hits and drove in the lone run for the Red Sox, who had won two straight one-run contests to open the set.

Rubby De La Rosa (4-6) allowed seven hits, including Bautista's deciding blast, while walking two and fanning two over just four-plus frames.

Bautista's three-run blast in the fifth snapped the scoreless deadlock. Anthony Gose began the frame with a walk and Jose Reyes singled prior to the ball which cleared the Green Monster.

"Yeah, I just missed that pitch," said De La Rosa. "I tried to throw it away."

De La Rosa exited for Wright, who surrendered a single to Adam Lind but prevented the inning from progressing by inducing a double-play grounder off the bat of Danny Valencia.

Daniel Nava started the home sixth with a double and later came in on a two- out hit from Bogaerts, but Dickey retired the next four batters in turn.

He left after a ground-rule double by Mookie Betts to start the eighth, and Brett Cecil stranded the runner at third by striking out Yoenis Cespedes.

Casey Janssen then recovered from his nightmare outing in Friday's 10-inning defeat by turning away the Sox in order in the ninth to pick up his 22nd save.

Game Notes

Dickey has worked at least seven innings in just 10 of his 30 starts ... He improved to 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA against Boston this season ... Both clubs are in action on Monday, as the Blue Jays open up a six-game homestand against the Cubs, and the Red Sox continue their homestand by welcoming Baltimore.
