Recap: Seattle vs. Houston

Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Villar hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 2-1 win over the Seattle Mariners in the middle test of a three-game set.

Jon Singleton worked a two-out walk against Yoervis Medina (4-3), moved to second on a wild pitch and runners were on the corners following Matt Dominguez's infield single. Villar then bounced one just over the glove of a diving Robinson Cano at second base to plate Singleton.

"It was one of those nights for him, he just didn't have his stuff," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said of Medina.

Josh Fields fired a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save of the season.

Collin McHugh (9-9) allowed a run on just two hits with four strikeouts for Houston, which had dropped four straight to Seattle.

"He's got three good pitches," said Astros interim manager Tom Lawless. "When he's around the plate, he's pretty hard to hit."

Singleton had two hits with an RBI and a run scored, while Villar also posted two hits in the triumph.

Logan Morrison smacked a solo homer off the glass of the Hit It Here Cafe in the eighth to tie it. The Mariners' only other hit came in the fourth when Austin Jackson led off the frame with a single.

Mariners starter Roenis Elias gave up a run on six hits and two walks.

Seattle moved a half game behind Detroit for the AL's second wild-card spot.

Houston opened the scoring in the fourth. Chris Carter began the frame with a single. Jason Castro struck out and Jake Marisnick grounded into a force out before Singleton whacked a double off the top of the wall to plate Marisnick. Singleton moved to third on the throw to the plate, but Dominguez popped out to end the frame.
