Recap: NY Mets vs. Colorado

Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Rafael Montero tossed scoreless ball into the sixth inning to earn his first major-league win, and the New York Mets came away with yet another 2-0 decision over the Colorado Rockies in the finale of a three-game series.

Montero (1-3) walked four and allowed three hits while fanning seven over his 5 1/3-inning outing. Four relievers combined to complete the four-hit shutout, with Jenrry Mejia shutting the door in the ninth to earn his 25th save.

Eric Young, Jr. totaled three hits and drove in a run for the Mets, who swept the series and have taken seven of their last eight overall.

"I'm confident in my ability," said Young. "I know I can play at this level, it's just a matter of getting out there."

Tyler Matzek (5-10) worked 6 1/3 frames, giving up four hits and two runs while also striking out seven and issuing four walks for the Rockies, who entered this set having won four in a row.

"We pitched very well this series," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "Tyler did a great job, threw the ball very well tonight. But you score two runs in three games, and you're not going to win."

New York loaded the bases with one out in the home seventh on a pair of walks and a single, and Matzek was pulled for Matt Belisle. Juan Lagares followed with a sacrifice fly to score Dilson Herrera for a 2-0 game before Wilmer Flores popped to second.

Drew Stubbs doubled and Justin Morneau singled to open the sixth, and Montero exited after striking out Nolan Arenado. Dario Alvarez retired the only batter he faced, then Carlos Torres induced an inning-ending pop from Michael McKenry.

Torres took care of Colorado in the seventh, Jeurys Familia stranded Stubbs at third in the eighth, and Mejia retired the side in order in the ninth.

The hosts provided all the offense they needed in the second, as Young tripled home Herrera with two away to put the Mets on the board.

After walking DJ LeMahieu with two outs in the fifth, Montero gave up his first hit to counterpart Matzek, but Charlie Blackmon's fly to right ended the threat.
