Recap: Baltimore vs. NY Yankees

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Kelly Johnson's RBI double in the ninth inning gave the Baltimore Orioles a 3-2 walkoff victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday.

After Brian McCann's home run provided the Yankees with a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, the Orioles rallied in the home half. Nelson Cruz smacked a leadoff double to left off David Robertson (2-5) to start the frame. Quintin Berry replaced Cruz as a pinch runner and soon raced home on Steve Pearce's double to left, which tied the game.

J.J. Hardy flied out to right before Johnson, who played 77 games with the Yankees earlier this season, smacked an elevated first-pitch cutter to right to bring in the game-winning run.

Darren O'Day (5-1) earned the win despite giving up a home run in the ninth. Starter Chris Tillman gave up one run on five hits with six strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings for the Orioles, who took three of four from the Yankees.

Baltimore's magic number to clinch the AL East has been trimmed to three games.

Martin Prado and McCann both homered for New York, which has lost nine of its last 11 games against Baltimore. Starter Hiroki Kuroda allowed just one run on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts across seven frames.

Prado opened the scoring for New York in the second with his 12th homer of the season, a leadoff blast to left that a leaping Alejandro De Aza just missed catching at the wall. McCann then singled to left and advanced to second on De Aza's throwing error. Mark Teixeira singled to place runners at the corners.

Hardy hit a two-out double to the corner in left during the home half, but Kuroda struck out Johnson to leave him stranded.

Baltimore threatened again in the fifth. Hardy and Nick Hundley both singled to place runners on first and third, but Jonathan Schoop grounded out.

The Orioles did, however, score in the sixth. De Aza got aboard on a one-out single to left before Jones hit a liner off the glove of Prado at third base and down the left-field line for a game-tying RBI double.

McCann cracked a towering shot to right off O'Day with one out in the ninth for the go-ahead run.

Game Notes

Johnson had his third career walkoff hit ... Baltimore leads the season series, 11-4 ... Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is hitless in his last 24 at- bats ... McCann has homered in back-to-back games.
