Recap: Arizona vs. Los Angeles

Scottsdale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon McCarthy threw four sharp innings to help the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Cactus League opener for both teams.

McCarthy yielded just one run on four hits to outduel reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw, who was reached for three runs and five hits in his two innings of work.

Kershaw allowed an RBI double to Martin Prado in the first and a run-scoring triple to A.J. Pollock in the second. Pollock then scored on a single by Aaron Hill, who finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Yasiel Puig went 2-for-3 and knocked in Los Angeles' lone run with an third- inning double.

The two NL West foes will also begin the 2014 regular season with a pair of matchups in Sydney, Australia on Mar. 22-23.
