Recap: Pittsburgh vs. Boston

Bradenton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris McGuiness' double in the eighth knocked in the winning run as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Boston Red Sox, 7-6, on Monday in Grapefruit League action.

Pedro Alvarez hit a two-run home run and knocked in three, while Russell Martin also hit a two-run shot for the Pirates, who had 11 hits.

Pittsburgh starter Francisco Liriano threw two hitless innings with three strikeouts in the win.

Mike Carp and Bryce Brentz each hit two-run homers in defeat, with Boston starter Brandon Workman giving up five hits and five earned runs with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings pitched.
