Recap: San Diego vs. Cleveland

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Yonder Alonso hit a bases-clearing doublwe in a five-run third inning, as San Diego edged Cleveland by a 9-8 count in the exhibition finale for both clubs on Saturday.

Seth Smith clubbed a two-run homer, while Chase Headley added a solo shot, knocked in two and scored twice for the Padres, who open up the regular season by hosting the Dodgers on Sunday night.

Eric Stults' only blemish in his four-inning start was a Jason Kipnis homer. He walked three and struck out two in the victory.

Matt Carson finished with two homers and drove in five for the Indians, who begin their 2014 slate at Oakland on Monday.

Danny Salazar served up seven hits and six runs -- five earned -- over his five-inning outing.
