Miami, FL (Sports Network) - The Miami Marlins announced that president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest, as well as special assistant to the president of baseball operations Jim Fleming have been ousted from the club's front office.

"The Marlins organization has decided to make some changes at the helm of our Baseball Operations. Effective immediately, I have relieved Larry Beinfest of his duties so that he may pursue other opportunities," said Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria in a Friday statement.

"Larry has worked with me for 13 years, making huge contributions to our efforts and serving as a partner to me in the process. I wish him nothing but the best and know he will make a great addition wherever he lands. We have also relieved Jim Fleming of his duties as Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations. We thank him for his service to our team and wish him well.

"I will soon be making further announcements in terms of our new structure in baseball operations."

Beinfest had worked with the Marlins franchise since 1996 -- excepting 2000-02 when he served as assistant GM then interim GM of the Expos -- in a variety of roles, including a stint as general manager from 2002-07 before being promoted to the baseball operations post. He was the architect of the club's 2003 World Series title.

Since moving into a brand-new downtown stadium and removing the "Florida" from their moniker, the Marlins have gone a disappointing 128-193, including a 59-100 record heading into the final weekend of the 2013 campaign.
