Baltimore, MD ( - Former Baltimore Orioles star outfielder Paul Blair died Thursday at 69.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Blair collapsed while bowling with his wife in Pikesville, MD. He was rushed to Mount Siani Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Blair was an instrumental part of the Orioles' 1966 and 1970 World Series championship teams. Although Blair was know more for his defensive abilities, the eight-time Gold Glover hit a game-winning homer in Game 3 of the 1966 World Series and batted .474 in the 1970 World Series.

"It is with great sadness that we learned of Paul Blair's passing last evening," Orioles managing partner Peter Angelos said in a statement Friday. "Paul was a key member of many of the Orioles' most memorable and successful teams, as his contributions at the plate and his Gold Glove defense in center field helped the club to two World Series and four AL pennants. After his on- field career, Paul made the Baltimore area his home and stayed involved with the organization through his appearances in the community and at the ballpark. On behalf of the Orioles I extend my condolences to his wife, Gloria, and his family."

Over his 12 year career, Blair also played for the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds.
