Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Reports of an alleged foreign substance in the glove of Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester was apparently not an issue for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Various social media outlets posted video and still pictures of a green substance in Lester's glove during Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday night.

Red Sox manager John Farrell addressed the issue Thursday.

"If you know, Jon Lester, he sweats like a pig and he needs resin. He keeps it in his glove," Farrell said.

The Cardinals, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, were unconcerned.

"As far as I'm concerned it's a non-issue," said Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak in a statement to the newspaper. "It's something that arose in social media and not from our players or manager or our coaching staff. To me it does not represent a concern."

Cardinals minor leaguer Tyler Melling posted a picture on Twitter late in the game, showing a green spot inside Lester's glove and suggested that he could be doctoring the ball.

Video posted shows Lester reaching inside his glove and then touching the back of his cap.

"We cannot draw any conclusions from this video," Major League Baseball said in a statement to the paper. "There were no complaints from the Cardinals and the umpires never detected anything indicating a foreign substance throughout the game."

Lester was brilliant in the opener, allowing just five singles with a walk and eight strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings in Boston's 8-1 victory.
