San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres exercised the 2014 and 2015 contract options of manager Bud Black Monday.

"Buddy has a keen insight into team dynamics and creates a great environment for the players and coaching staff," Padres executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes said. "He is a gifted leader with a terrific mind for the game and a genuine interest and curiosity related to all areas of our organization."

Black has managed the Padres since 2007, leading the team to a 464-509 record and no playoff appearances over that span.

His best season came in 2010 when he earned the National League Manager of the Year Award after the club finished in second place of the NL West with a 90-72 mark.

San Diego finished last season with a 76-86 record, but went 49-37 over the final 86 games of the year, which was the fifth-best winning percentage in the NL from June 28 to the end of the regular season.

"I am honored and humbled by the faith Josh and our ownership team have shown in me, the coaching staff and our players," said Black. "I am extremely proud to be part of this organization, and I'm excited to continue working with ownership and our baseball operations team toward achieving our ultimate goal: bringing a championship to the great city and fans of San Diego."
