Phillies sign Gwynn to minor-league deal

Philadelphia, PA ( - The Philadelphia Phillies signed Tony Gwynn Jr. to a minor-league contract on Monday after releasing the outfielder last month.

Gwynn, 31, was batting just .163 with a .281 on-base percentage in 67 games for the Phillies this season when he was designated for assignment on July 21 and then released six days later.

His father, Hall of Fame outfielder Tony Gwynn, died June 16.
