Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers announced following Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians that the team has claimed outfielder Mike Carp off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Carp owns a .260 average with 27 home runs and 123 RBI in 301 career games spread out over six major league campaigns, but was batting just .198 with nine RBI this season before being designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Friday.

The 28-year-old was a member of Boston's 2013 championship team, batting .296 with nine homers and 43 RBI in 86 games that year.

Carp is expected to report to the Rangers during the team's upcoming road series against the Chicago White Sox, which begins Monday.

To add Carp to the 40-man roster, Texas transferred pitcher Alexi Ogando from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

Ogando has been sidelined indefinitely since June 4 with right elbow inflammation.
