Denver, CO ( - The Colorado Rockies have reportedly agreed to terms with veteran pitcher LaTroy Hawkins on a one-year contract.

According to the Denver Post, the deal is for $2.5 million and the contract includes a buyout of $250,000 on a club option for 2015. The paper said the deal is pending a physical, which is scheduled for later this week.

The right-hander, who turns 41 in December, will apparently be given the opportunity to be Colorado's closer after a solid 2012 campaign with the New York Mets that saw him go 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 72 relief appearances.

Hawkins, who helped the Rockies reach their only World Series in 2007, also saved 13 games down the stretch for the Mets when closer Bobby Parnell went down with a herniated disc in his neck.

Colorado had hoped to bolster its bullpen this offseason, as closer Rafael Betancourt is expected to miss the entire 2014 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. And with Hawkins on board, lefty Rex Brothers can resume his role as a setup man.

Brothers filled in for Betancourt last season and converted 19 of his 21 save opportunities.

Over the course of his 19-year career with the Twins, Cubs, Giants, Orioles, Rockies, Yankees, Astros, Brewers, Angels and Mets, Hawkins has a record of 68-90 with a 4.37 ERA and 101 saves.
