Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander could miss one start but is not expected to land on the disabled list after an MRI on his pitching shoulder showed inflammation but no major damage.

"Really, there was no major structural damage," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. "At this point, we don't expect him to go on the DL."

Verlander was taken out of Monday night's game against Pittsburgh after giving up five runs in the first inning in the shortest start of his career. Detroit lost the game 11-6.

"Warming up, long tossing and then going to the bullpen, (my shoulder) didn't feel great," Verlander said after the game. "Then it started to loosen up a little bit toward the end of my bullpen. When I got on the mound there were no sharp pains or anything. The ball wasn't coming out of my hand good at all."

Verlander (10-11) has never been on the disabled list and has never missed a start due to injury. The 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young Award winner's ERA climbed to 4.76 after Monday's start.
