Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - New Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus continued to fill out his coaching staff for the upcoming season, naming former All-Stars Omar Vizquel and Wally Joyner to positions on Monday.

Vizquel, an 11-time Gold Glove winner and the all-time leader in MLB history in games played by a shortstop, will serve as first base coach in addition to assisting with the infield and baserunning.

Joyner will take over as Detroit's hitting coach after spending one year as an assistant in that capacity with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013. The 51- year-old ex-first baseman was a teammate of Ausmus with the San Diego Padres in 1996.

Ausmus also tabbed Mick Billmeyer as bullpen coach and Matt Martin to be the club's defensive coordinator.

"I'm very excited to have Omar, Wally, Mick and Matt join the Tigers," said Ausmus. "There is a lot of baseball and coaching experience in this group that is committed to the details of winning baseball games."

Since ending a distinguished 24-year playing career in the majors in 2012, Vizquel worked as a roving infield instructor with the Angels last season.

Joyner was the lead hitting instructor for MLB's International Elite-level development program for four years prior to his time with the Phillies.

Ausmus, hired by the Tigers earlier this month to succeed the retiring Jim Leyland, had previously announced that pitching coach Jeff Jones and third base coach Dave Clark would be retained.
