Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees and outfielder Brett Gardner have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

The pact is reportedly worth $2.85 million for the 2013 season and includes an additional $150,000 in performance-based incentives.

Gardner appeared in just 16 games last season due to arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow in April. He batted .323 with two doubles and three RBI.

A third-round selection of the Yankees in the 2005 amateur draft, Gardner is a career .266 hitter with 15 home runs, 125 RBI and 137 stolen bases in 475 games over five seasons in New York.
