Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Yankees closer David Robertson is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin, manager Joe Girardi confirmed after the team's home opener on Monday.

Robertson sustained the injury during Sunday's 6-4 win over Toronto when he spun a scoreless inning to pick up his second save. The right-hander underwent an MRI on Monday, which confirmed a Grade 1 strain of his groin.

With Robertson unavailable, Girardi turned to Shawn Kelley to record the final three outs of New York's 4-2 win over Baltimore on Monday. Kelley was credited with his first career save.

At the start of the season, Robertson was expected to fill the role vacated by legendary closer Mariano Rivera, who retired at the conclusion of the 2013 campaign.
