Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - Kyle Busch and Joey Logano had their race come to an end early on Sunday at Kansas Speedway when they crashed midway through the STP 400.

Busch, who had been dealing with a loose car since the start of this 400-mile race, spun and hit the outside wall along the backstretch before he slid down the track and then collected Logano, his former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate. Busch was using a backup car for this race after he wrecked his primary car during Friday's practice session. He also spun and hit the wall on lap 5 while running in the third spot.

This is the first time NASCAR's new Sprint Cup race car, the Gen-6, has run at Kansas, which was repaved and reconfigured last year.

"There was absolutely no grip for me," a frustrated Busch said. "You're running third and doing fine, but the car gets a little tight and you spin out. I don't know what to do with that. Then I was back in traffic all day, and traffic there is way worse. I'm just trying to get back up to the front and making some gains, but the cars snaps out from me."

Logano, who is in his first season with Penske Racing, tried to avoid Busch by dipping down the apron of the track. The front-end of Logano's car lifted up in the air when he plowed into Busch's car.

It's been a tough week for Logano, as his and Brad Keselowski's teams at Penske received severe penalties from NASCAR for unapproved parts found on their cars during pre-race inspection at Texas Motor Speedway. Keselowski and Logano were each penalized with a loss of 25 points.

"I saw (Busch) get loose and get up against the wall," Logano said. "He slapped the wall with the right side, and I thought he would stay up there, so I committed to gunning it and getting by him on the bottom. And then he came back across. It was just unfortunate."

Busch had been on a hot streak before Kansas. He had finished fifth or better in the last five races, including victories at Texas and Fontana, Calif. Kansas has been one of Busch's worst racetracks in Sprint Cup. It's the only track on the Cup schedule where he has not scored a top-five finish. This was his 12th start here.

"I just don't know what to do at Kansas," Busch noted.
