Abingdon, VA (Sports Network) - TriStar Motorsports announced Tuesday that driver Eric McClure has been diagnosed with acute renal failure and will miss Friday's Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

McClure, who is 18th in the Nationwide Series standings, missed Saturday's race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. He was hospitalized for elevated creatinine levels, which indicated improper kidney function.

His return to the track remains uncertain as his status remains week-to-week. Jeff Green, the 2000 series champion, will take his place in the No. 14 Toyota. He finished 24th in Saturday's race.

"This has been a very challenging week for me, both physically and emotionally," said McClure in a statement. "Having a newborn and four other little girls, among other things, has also presented a challenge to my family. Recovery can be a slow and frustrating process, but thankfully we are seeing signs of healing. I can't thank everyone enough for all of the prayers, thoughts, and well-wishes during this difficult time and I can't wait to be back behind the wheel."

McClure missed four races last year after suffering internal injuries and a concussion from a crash at Talladega. He also battled the Epstein-Barr virus in 2011.
