Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Rockets have brought back guard Aaron Brooks, who spent the first 3 1/2 years of his career with the club and was the NBA's Most Improved Player during his first go-round.

Brooks became a free agent on March 1 after being waived by Sacramento. He averaged 8.0 points and 2.3 assists in 46 games, including 20 starts, for the Kings.

Selected by the Rockets with the 26th overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft, Brooks averaged 12.8 points and 3.6 assists in 247 games with the franchise. He won the Most Improved Player award in 2009-10 after averaging career highs of 19.6 points and 5.3 assists in 82 starts.

The Rockets traded the Oregon product to Phoenix during the 2010-11 season in exchange for Goran Dragic and draft considerations. He went to play in the Chinese Basketball Association during the lockout last year and helped Guangdong to the league finals.

Brooks has averaged 11.8 points and 3.5 assists in 318 games, including 149 starts, with Houston, Phoenix and Sacramento.

The Rockets opened a roster spot by waiving forward Tyler Honeycutt, who was acquired from Sacramento in a trade last month.
