Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond has received a three-year contract extension that will run through the 2015-16 season, the team announced Wednesday.

Hammond, who was hired by the Bucks in April of 2008 following a seven-year stint as vice president of the Detroit Pistons, was working in the final year of his former deal.

The 58-year-old was named the NBA's 2009-10 Executive of the Year after helping guide Milwaukee to a 46-36 record and an appearance in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, after a 12-game improvement from the previous season. The Bucks have not qualified for the postseason in either of the last two years, however.

Milwaukee does currently reside in seventh place in the East with a 22-18 record and has gone 6-2 since Hammond fired head coach Scott Skiles on Jan. 7 and replaced him with assistant Jim Boylan.

"John does a terrific job for our basketball team," Bucks president Herb Kohl said in a statement. "He and his staff have assembled a roster of very talented players who are also very good people, which our fans appreciate and enjoy watching. John is highly respected by the players and among his peers and I'm happy he will continue to lead our basketball operations department."

A former assistant coach and scouting director with the Pistons as well, Hammond was a part of a successful six-year run in Detroit from 2002-08 in which the team reached the Eastern Conference finals four times, lost in the 2004-05 NBA Finals and captured the 2003-04 league championship.
