Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards retained starting small forward Martell Webster on Wednesday, with the team and the impending unrestricted free agent agreeing to terms on a new contract.

Terms of the deal were not released, but according to multiple sources, it is a four-year contract worth a maximum value of $22 million and is partially guaranteed for the final year.

During 2012-13, Webster averaged a career-best 11.4 points per contest while shooting 42.2 percent from 3-point range. He posted a career-high in 3 pointers made (139) and started 62-of-76 games this past season.

"Martell's versatility and shooting ability combined with his experience and leadership make him a valuable part of our team," said Wizards team president Ernie Grunfeld. "We are very pleased to have him back both on the court and in the locker room and look forward to his continued contributions to our success."

The sixth overall pick of the 2005 draft by Portland, Webster owns career averages of 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds over eight NBA seasons and signed a one-year contract with the Wizards last August. The 26-year-old will compete with former Georgetown standout Otto Porter Jr., whom Washington took third overall in last month's draft, for time at the small forward spot.
