Recap: Houston vs. Memphis

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Marc Gasol filled the stat sheet with 15 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks, and the Memphis Grizzlies held on to take an 82-78 victory over the Houston Rockets.

Zach Randolph also scored 15, while Mike Conley and Jerryd Bayless chipped in with 12 and 13 points, respectively, to push the Grizzlies a franchise-best 29 games above .500 and into a tie for the third seed in the West with Denver, which lost to Dallas on Friday.

Both the Grizzlies and the Nuggets each have three games remaining on their schedules.

James Harden had 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Houston, but committed eight turnovers and misfired on his last four shots, all of which occurred in the final 1:06 and could have given the Rockets a tie or the lead. He was just 7-for-24 from the field.

"We had some turnovers that hurt us. It wasn't a great game, but our guys showed a lot of fight," Rockets head coach Kevin McHale said.

Houston, currently sitting in seventh place in the West, remains one-half game behind Golden State for the sixth spot after the Warriors lost to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.

Memphis saw its 19-point first half lead completely diminish by the early moments of the fourth quarter, but never let the Rockets re-take the lead.

Houston tied it, 66-66, but the Grizzlies responded with a 10-2 push, capped by four straight points from Conley.

Jeremy Lin then orchestrated a 10-2 Houston run, with the guard bookending the flurry with a pair of triples to knot the contest at 78-78 with 1:33 to play. The Rockets, though, were never able to score again.

Memphis struggled to put the game out of reach, making just two of their next six free throw attempts. With 6.5 seconds left, Houston got one more crack at it, but Harden's open look rimmed out and into the hands of Tayshaun Prince, who sank a pair from the line with less than a second left to seal the outcome.

"All the guys (on our team) are just on the same page. When you've got five guys out there with the same goal, fighting hard and playing together, this is the outcome -- you get the win," Grizzlies guard Tony Allen said.

Memphis jumped out to a 24-15 lead after the first and a late 13-2 run in the second helped the Grizzlies break open a 19-point lead.

They led 49-36 at the break and held a double-digit lead for much of the first 8 1/2 minutes of the third, but the Rockets used a 7-2 spurt to cut their deficit to five by start of the fourth.
