Recap: Atlanta vs. Indiana

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - David West scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in leading the Indiana Pacers to their first regular season win in Atlanta in over seven years, as they downed the Hawks 89-85 at Philips Arena.

Paul George chipped in with 18 points and seven boards while Lance Stephenson scored 10 before leaving with an injury for the Pacers, whose last regular season win in Atlanta came Dec. 22, 2006 -- a span of 12 consecutive losses.

"This has been a tough place for us," West said of Philips Arena. "But we came in with the right motivation tonight."

Hawks All-Star forward Paul Millsap pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds but connected on just two of his 11 field goals attempts and finished with seven points. Atlanta got plenty of bench help with Mike Scott and Elton Brand totaling 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Atlanta, despite making just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) of its shots in the first quarter, stayed close at 19-15 thanks to seven Pacers turnovers.

While Indiana still kept giving the ball away in the second with seven more giveaways, Atlanta nearly doubled its production and led by one, 43-42, at halftime.

The Pacers scored eight straight at one point in the third, the last basket coming on a scary three-point play by Lance Stephenson, who fell hard on his right shoulder and back after getting his feet taken out from under him on the drive to the basket. Stephenson somehow banked in the shot and even stayed in the game and hit the additional free throw. Later in the period, however, the emerging guard was taken back to the locker room and did not return.

The free throw put the Pacers in front 55-47 with under eight minutes left in the third, and Indiana brought a 66-55 cushion into the final stanza.

Just as they did in the first quarter, the Hawks made only six field goals in the third, and unlike the second, there was no turnaround.

"It's just tough to score on that team," Brand said of the Pacers.

An Ian Mahinmi tip-in in the early stages of the fourth gave Indiana its biggest least at 73-57, and Atlanta got within four down the stretch.

After Cartier Martin's 3-pointer had the Hawks within 78-74, West hit a turnaround hook shot coming out of a timeout, and George added a windmill slam following a turnover.

Three-pointers by Scott and Martin in the final minute gave Atlanta hope, but Indiana held on for its third straight win.

Game Notes

Stephenson was diagnosed with a sore lower back ... The Pacers committed just five turnovers in the second half ... Atlanta's Kyle Korver made his first 3- point attempt to extended his NBA record streak to 116 straight games with at least one triple. Korver missed his final four long range attempts, however ... The Hawks had only two second-chance points to Indiana's nine.
