Recap: Brooklyn vs. New York

Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Carmelo Anthony called the Knicks the "laughing stock of the league" before Thursday's visit to Brooklyn.

"We finally put a 48-minute game together," Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said.

Anthony filled the box score with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and was an efficient 8-of-12 from the floor. Iman Shumpert and Andrea Bargnani added 17 and 16 points, respectively, as the Knicks snapped their nine-game skid in convincing fashion, albeit against a struggling Brooklyn club.

The Nets can point to a slew of injuries and an influx of new faces trying to fit into first-year head coach Jason Kidd's system, but it doesn't change Brooklyn's pitiful 5-14 record and a losing streak at home that has reached six games.

Brook Lopez put up a 24-point, nine-rebound effort, while Joe Johnson shot a woeful 4-of-15 from the field for 13 points.

The Knicks made 57 percent of their shots, never trailed and pulled away for good in a one-sided third quarter that saw the visitors more than double-up the hosts, 34-16.

"Tonight they looked like the team of last year," said Kidd, who actually played for the Knicks last season.

New York, which led 50-43 at halftime, received 11 points from Shumpert and 10 from Anthony in the frame. Shumpert made a pair of 3-pointers during a 13-2 run that ended with a J.R. Smith trey for a 71-52 Knicks cushion with 4:09 remaining until the fourth.

The margin reached 25 just before the final minute, and Anthony fittingly hit a late 19-footer for an 84-59 cushion that was never challenged over the final 12 minutes.

Bargnani was ejected in the fourth quarter after making a 3-pointer over Kevin Garnett and trash-talking him down the court ... Garnett finished with six points and six rebounds in 20 minutes ... Each team won a home and road game in last season's series.

Dorm Report: Rooting for the lesser of two evils

I really do try my best not to hate anyone, seeing as how that word can be thrown around rather easily, which is why it was so tough watching the Florida State-Louisville game on Thursday night.
