Recap: Dallas vs. New York

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Carmelo Anthony had 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the New York Knicks defeated the Dallas Mavericks 92-80 on Sunday night.

Kenyon Martin added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench for New York, which had dropped four of its last five coming in.

"I think our defense set the tone early," Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said.

Dirk Nowitzki tallied 18 points and nine boards for the Mavericks, who have dropped back-to-back tilts on the heels of a three-game winning streak.

Dallas led 13-12 during the middle stages of the opening frame before Anthony netted six points during a 12-0 Knicks run, including the last four to cap it and stake New York a 24-13 advantage late in the quarter.

New York took a 29-17 margin into the second and 52-35 spread into the break.

"It was a very poor showing in the first half and I am taking the blame for all of it," Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle said.

The Knicks' lead peaked at 19 in the third before they headed into the fourth with a 67-57 cushion.

A Vince Carter 3 whittled the Dallas deficit to 68-62 early in the final stanza, but a J.R. Smith jumper, Toure Murry layup, and Tim Hardaway Jr. three-point play extended the gap back to 75-62.

Dallas again got within six with 1:33 left, but the Knicks sunk their free throws down the stretch to seal the outcome.

Game Notes

The Knicks shot 48.7 percent (37-of-76) from the floor ... Dallas scored 22 points off 17 New York turnovers ... The Knicks outrebounded the Mavericks, 47-34.

There was quite a bit of hitting on the field at Milan Puskar Stadium last weekend, but almost as much action took place in the streets just outside in the hours following West Virginia's upset of visiting Baylor.
