Recap: Brooklyn vs. Golden State

Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Brooklyn Nets' renewed focus on the defensive end has them unbeaten so far in 2014.

Joe Johnson had 27 points and the Nets snapped the Golden State Warriors' 10- game winning streak with a 102-98 triumph on Wednesday night.

Brooklyn has allowed an average of 89.8 points during its season-high four- game winning streak, far below its season average of 101.1 points given up per tilt coming in.

Klay Thompson's 3-pointer staked the Warriors a 93-89 lead with 4:06 left, but Golden State didn't tally a point for the next 3:57 as the Nets closed the contest on a 13-5 run.

Kevin Garnett registered 11 of his 13 points in the fourth, while Andray Blatche added 17 for Brooklyn. Shaun Livingston had 13 points and four steals filling in for the injured Deron Williams, who sat with a sprained left ankle.

"It felt good," said Garnett. "I thought defensively we were sound. They came out and gave us a big blow in the first quarter and I thought we kept our composure and didn't fall back."

Stephen Curry netted 15 of his 34 points in the final frame for Golden State, which hadn't lost since falling to the San Antonio Spurs at Oracle Arena on Dec. 19.

"Our visions were set on finishing out the road trip with a win," said Curry. "It's frustrating that we couldn't get it done, but it's one loss."

Following Thompson's triple, Johnson sunk a pair of free throws, Blatche knocked down a tough right baseline fadeaway jumper and Livingston split two foul shots to put Brooklyn in front, 94-93, with 1:12 remaining.

Thompson then missed a right corner trey before Johnson hit two more free throws with 1:00 on the clock. Andre Iguodala and Curry then turned the ball over on Golden State's next two trips down the floor and two more Johnson free throws with 10.4 ticks to play made it 98.93.

Curry was then fouled on a 3-pointer and sunk all three free throws, but Garnett knocked down a pair from the stripe with 8.5 seconds left to seal the outcome.

Earlier, Thompson and Curry put in eight points apiece in the opening frame as the Warriors held a 32-22 cushion after a quarter of play.

The Nets, though, outscored Golden State 37-20 in the second and headed into the break with a 59-52 margin.

The Warriors closed the third on a 6-1 spurt and took a 76-75 edge into the fourth.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
