Recap: Utah vs. Denver

Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Chalk up another loss for the Utah Jazz.

Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried each recorded double-doubles as the Denver Nuggets kept the Jazz winless on the season with a 100-81 victory at EnergySolutions Arena.

The Jazz actually led by one point early in the fourth quarter before going ice-cold down the stretch. Their 0-8 start is their worst since dropping the first 11 games of their inaugural 1974-75 campaign in New Orleans.

Lawson totaled 17 points and 10 assists and Faried added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Nuggets, who scored 30 points in the final frame and limited the Jazz to 13 to win their second game of the season.

Gordon Hayward scored a game-high 22 points but had just four after halftime for Utah, which got a 21-point, 13-rebound effort out of Derrick Favors.

"I forced it a little bit tonight," said Hayward, who committed seven of Utah's 14 turnovers. "I have to keep my turnovers down and make better decisions."

Alec Burks' three-point play less than two minutes into the fourth quarter gave the Jazz their only lead of the second half.

Denver answered with 10 of the next 11 points to go on top, 82-74, following a Randy Foye jumper with 7:13 remaining. John Lucas III stopped the run with a driving layup, but Andre Miller hit a fadeaway and got in the lane for two more and an 86-76 Nuggets lead with five minutes to play.

Utah never threatened and wound up shooting 4-of-18 (22 percent) from the field over the final 12 minutes to fall short again.

"That was a needed game for both teams, and I think our sense of urgency was a little bit better than theirs down the stretch. It could have [gone] either way, but we found a way to pul it out," Miller said.

Hayward scored 12 points in the first 7:35 to help the Jazz jump out to a 21-12 lead.

The margin fell to 26-20 going into the second, and J.J. Hickson had a monster two-handed slam over Marvin Williams to break a 33-33 tie with 4 1/2 minutes left in the half, which ended with the visitors holding a slim 46-45 advantage.

Denver stayed ahead in the third, but Favors' personal 7-0 run in the closing minutes tied the game at 68-68.
