Recap: Memphis vs. Toronto

Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Rudy Gay tallied 23 points and five steals as the Toronto Raptors surprised the Memphis Grizzlies with a 103-87 rout from FedExForum.

Gay added six rebounds and four assists in his first game in Memphis since he was traded to the Raptors last January. Kyle Lowry went for 21 points and six assists and DeMar DeRozan had 18 points -- 13 in the first quarter -- as Toronto snapped a three-game road losing skid.

"I just wanted to get my teammates involved first," said Gay. "I picked my spots when I wanted to be aggressive and my teammates worked with me. DeMar had it going in the first quarter and I didn't have to press a lot."

Mike Conley netted a season-high 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field for Memphis, which has lost three of four overall.

Marc Gasol registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.

DeRozan's hot start put Toronto in front 22-14 late in the opening period. His jumper at the 2:50 mark forced a Memphis timeout.

"I'm tired of playing from behind," said Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger. "I'm really tired of it. We start playing faster than we actually want to play."

Zach Randolph then scored four in a row to pull the home team within four, but Lowry's free throws with less than a second remaining in the first gave the Raptors a six-point edge.

Toronto extended its lead to 30-20 with four straight to start the second quarter. Memphis cut its deficit to two but the Raptors controlled the rest of the quarter and Lowry's 3-pointer two minutes before halftime had Toronto's lead up to 15.

Lowry and Gay hit a combined 5-for-5 from behind the arc in the second.

The Grizzlies battled back and tied the score at 70-70 with 3:33 left in the third. Conley's righty scoop layup in transition capped a 6-0 surge, but the home team could not get over the hump. The Raptors closed the quarter on an 8-1 spurt that included jumpers from DeRozan and Lowry for a 78-71 lead.

Memphis made just three field goals -- a pair of 3-pointers from Conley and one from Mike Miller -- in the opening eight minutes of the fourth quarter. The Raptors shot 11-of-12 from the foul line in the period to pull away.

Game Notes

Toronto had lost eight of the last nine meetings with Memphis ... Randolph had 10 points and 10 boards ... The Grizzlies shot 6-of-21 from 3-point range while Toronto hit 3's at a 53.3 percent clip (8-of-15).
