Recap: Atlanta vs. Orlando

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Arron Afflalo netted 10 of his game-high 26 points during a third-quarter surge that propelled the Orlando Magic to their first road win of the season with a 109-92 triumph over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday at Philips Arena.

The Hawks held a 63-58 edge with 7:24 left in the third before Afflalo finished back-to-back layups to spark a 21-6 swing that he capped with a three-point play that gave Orlando a 79-69 lead with 2:24 on the clock.

The Magic extended the margin to 85-73 by the end of the third and scored the first nine points of the fourth to build a comfortable 21-point cushion from which the Hawks couldn't come back.

Victor Oladipo and Andrew Nicholson each netted 18 points, while Nikola Vucevic donated 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Magic, who had lost their last 11 meetings with Atlanta.

"It felt good," Afflalo said. "We got contributions all over the board. I thought the chemistry was great."

Al Horford and Jeff Teague tallied 15 points apiece to lead Atlanta, which has dropped two straight games.

"They made a run and we couldn't really recover after that," Horford said of the momentum switching in the third. "We had some careless turnovers and I think that impacted the game there in the third quarter."

A back-and-forth first frame found Orlando clinging to a 26-25 lead before a Mike Scott 3-pointer just over three minutes in the second sparked an 11-2 Atlanta run that Horford capped with back-to-back jumpers for a 39-31 edge.

With the margin at seven shortly after, Afflalo finished a three-point play and then knocked down a triple on Orlando's next possession to bring the Magic within one with 4:29 left in the half.

However, the Hawks held Orlando without a field goal over the next 3 1/2 minutes and grabbed a 51-43 lead on Lou Williams' trey with 2:06 remaining.

Afflalo's triple with 50.4 seconds remaining halted Orlando's field-goal drought and helped the Magic get within 53-49 at the break.

Extra Points: Snyder and the Beltway radio wars

If contradiction was an Olympic sport, Chip Kelly would certainly be medal-worthy judging by his performance at the NFL's owners meeting but the Eagles coach might have to settle for silver because Daniel Snyder's critics will take the gold every time.

2015 PREVIEW NL EAST: It's the Nationals and everybody else

There isn't much after that. The Miami Marlins are loaded up for a playoff push -- likely through a wild card spot -- and the New York Mets are up-and- coming but still raw. The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, former powerhouses of the division, are going through rebuilds and won't contend anytime soon.
