Recap: Washington vs. Detroit

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - John Wall scored 20 points and had 11 assists, both game highs, to lead the Washington Wizards to a 106-82 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Marcin Gortat scored 16 and had seven rebounds, Bradley Beal and Trevor Ariza had 15 points apiece with Ariza adding six assists and five rebounds for the Wizards, who have won four of their last five.

"I think we just got to keep playing defense first," Wall said when asked of the key to Detroit's recent success. "When we play defense first it makes our game a lot better."

Greg Monroe finished with 14 points and seven rebounds and Brandon Jennings added 13 points and six assists for Detroit, which has lost four of its last five. Josh Harrellson and Will Bynum added 10 points apiece.

Washington jumped out to an early advantage with a 13-4 run through the first 3:45 of the game. With 3:46 remaining in the quarter, the Pistons scored six straight in less than a minute to make it 25-20. The Wizards led 31-23 after the first.

The teams traded baskets for the majority of the second quarter until there was 3:53 left in the half and the Wizards scored 14 unanswered. Beal put up 10 of those 14 points to close out the final four minutes of the first half. The Wizards led 62-41 at the break.

"I think that was the difference," Pistons head coach Maurice Cheeks said of Washington's run. "We were standing there in that eight, nine point range, and then they hit those threes. We just couldn't recover."

Detroit began the second half with possession and continued the trend of trading buckets with the Wizards. With 4:57 left in the third quarter, however, Washington went on a 6-0 run to move its advantage to 85-57.

The final 12 minutes was nothing more than a formality as the Wizards maintained a lead of at least 21 points to close out the contest. Detroit never led in the game.
