Recap: New Orleans vs. Denver

New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Will Barton scored 25 points, Kenneth Faried totaled 20 with 10 rebounds, and the Denver Nuggets outlasted the New Orleans Pelicans in double overtime 118-111 on Sunday.

Ty Lawson and Jameer Nelson scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, for Denver, and Danilo Gallinari added 17, including a big 3-pointer in the second OT.

The Nuggets have won four straight and improved to 6-2 under interim head coach Melvin Hunt

They withstood a superb performance from Anthony Davis, who flirted with a quadruple-double four days after turning 22. The All-Star center posted a line of 36 points, 14 rebounds, nine blocks and seven assists in a losing cause.

"He's an incredible player," Hunt said of Davis. "I wanted to call a timeout to see if there were three of him out there."

Tyreke Evans also filled the box score with 25 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the Pelicans, who lost for just the third time in their last 12 games. They fell one game behind the Thunder for the eighth spot in the Western Conference playoff race.

There were three lead changes and three ties in the final 2:10 of regulation.

Davis hit a go-ahead 20-footer with 12.2 seconds showing, but the All-Star center got lost on a pick-and-roll and allowed an easy layup by Faried with 4.3 ticks left.

Davis was long on a deep jumper at the buzzer, and another five minutes was in store after Barton buried a 3-pointer to knot things at 109-109 with 8.6 seconds remaining. Evans missed a contested shot on the right block at the buzzer.

New Orleans missed its first five shots of the second OT, and a Faried putback and Gallinari 3-pointer put the Nuggets in front to stay. An Eric Gordon turnover with New Orleans down by three inside the final minute gave way to a free throw contest, and the Nuggets held on from there.

"We got great looks and we just didn't execute," Pelicans forward Quincy Pondexter said. "We didn't make the shots that we had drawn up and we were confident in those guys to take those shots. We just came up a little short."

Davis' 12 points in the first quarter staked the Pelicans to a 26-21 lead, but the Nuggets shot 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the field in the second quarter and brought a 50-47 advantage into halftime.

The break cooled Denver off, as the visitors missed 11-of-12 shots to open the third. A quarter-opening 15-2 run gave New Orleans its biggest lead at 62-52, and the Pelicans led 77-71 entering the fourth.
