Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Heat announced Friday that they have signed rookie guard Shabazz Napier, the team's first-round pick in this year's NBA Draft.

The Heat traded up two spots to land Napier, a two-time NCAA champion at Connecticut and the Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 Final Four, with the 24th overall selection.

"Shabazz is a proven winner and one of the most mature college players that I have ever met," said Heat president Pat Riley. "Not only did he help lead UConn to two NCAA Championships, but he also knows exactly what he needs to do to make an impact at the NBA level. I believe the experience he had during the Summer League is going to pay off in leaps and bounds when training camp begins."

Napier finished his outstanding four-year career at UConn with 1,959 points and 646 assists while playing in a school-record 143 games. In nine Summer League games in Orlando and Las Vegas, the 23-year-old has averaged 9.7 points and 3.8 assists.
