Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Pistons announced Friday that the team has officially signed rookie guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the eighth overall pick in last month's NBA Draft.

Caldwell-Pope, the 2012-13 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, followed up a standout junior season at the University of Georgia with a solid performance at the recent Orlando Summer League. The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.4 assists at the event.

The 20-year-old finished second in the SEC in scoring (18.5 ppg) and 3-point field goals made (84) with the Bulldogs this past season, while averaging 7.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals as well over 32 games.

Detroit also signed forward Tony Mitchell, the team's first of two second- round draft selections. The North Texas product averaged 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in Summer League play.

Mitchell, the 37th overall choice, recorded 13.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocks over 32 contests with the Mean Green in 2012-13.
