Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Quarterback Jimmy Clausen, a second-round pick out of Notre Dame in the 2010 Draft, was among the 22 players waived by the Carolina Panthers as part of Saturday's cut-down day moves.

Clausen, the No. 48 overall pick in '10, started 10 games as a rookie for the Panthers and threw for 1,558 yards with three touchdowns and nine interceptions during a 2-14 season.

The following spring Carolina drafted Cam Newton and Clausen hasn't seen the field since. Veteran Derek Anderson is Newton's backup.

"Just want to thank the Panthers Organization and the city of Charlotte for drafting me and making this home for me the last 3 years!" Clausen wrote on Twitter.

Clausen along with safety D.J. Campbell, wide receiver David Gettis and Anderson Russell were waived/injured, meaning they will revert to the Panthers' injured reserve list if they clear waivers and an injury settlement isn't reached.

Veteran cornerback Drayton Florence, offensive tackle Patrick Brown and linebacker Jason Williams were also released by Carolina on Saturday.

Also waived were wide receivers Brent on Bersin, Taulib Ikharo and James Shaw, offensive tackle Garrett Chisolm, tight ends Dominique Curry and Zack Pianalto, defensive tackles Sione Fua and Casey Walker, offensive guards Hayworth Hicks and Tori Mobley, linebackers Doug Hogue and Ben Jacobs, safety Robert Lester, running back Tauren Poole and defensive end Craig Roh.

The Panthers open the regular season on Sept. 8, when they host the Seattle Seahawks.
