Alameda, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders signed linebacker Omar Gaither on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Gaither spent training camp with the Houston Texans after starting four of the 10 games he played for the Carolina Panthers last season.

Selected by Philadelphia in the fifth round of the 2006 draft, the Tennessee product started 36 games over five seasons with the Eagles.

Gaither has compiled 393 tackles and six sacks in 77 career games.

To make room on the team's active roster, the Raiders placed linebacker Travis Goethel (knee) on injured reserve.
