Recap: Kansas City vs. Oakland

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Carson Palmer had two touchdown passes to lead the Oakland Raiders to a 26-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Palmer was 14-for-28 with 209 yards and an interception while Denarius Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey each caught a touchdown for the Raiders (3-4), who have won two straight. Darren McFadden carried the ball 29 times for 114 yards and added four catches for 23 yards.

"Our guys kept fighting and kept battling," Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. "We made enough plays at the end of the day to win the game."

Matt Cassel took over under center after Brady Quinn left the game with a head injury. Cassel went 20-for-30 with 218 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Chiefs (1-6), who have lost four straight and have yet to hold a lead in regulation this season.

The Raiders started the game with the ball, but Palmer was picked off on the first play. Kansas City, though, was unable to take advantage of the short field and had to punt.

On 2nd-and-8 at his own 18-yard line, Palmer hit Moore on a short pass and he broke that for a 58-yard gain down to the Kansas City 24-yard line. The drive stalled there and Sebastian Janikowski's 36-yard field goal staked the team to a 3-0 lead just over five minutes in.

Quinn was picked off later in the first quarter, which saw him leave the game with the injury, and Oakland turned that into three more points on a 35-yard field goal from Janikowski just 16 seconds into the second quarter.

The Chiefs finally put together a successful drive on their next touch as an eight-play, 68-yard march was capped on a Ryan Succop 30-yard field goal to make it a 6-3 game with 10:21 left in the first half.

After holding Oakland to a three-and-out, the Chiefs got the ball back near midfield and moved 30 yards to set up a 42-yard field goal from Succop to tie the game with 4:12 left in the half.

Oakland had to line up for a punt, but Javier Arenas muffed the kick and the Raiders recovered at the KC 11-yard line. Two plays later, Palmer hit Moore in the back of the end zone to give the team a 13-6 lead heading into the break.

The Chiefs started the second half with the ball, but like the Raiders to start the first half, also turned it over as Cassel fumbled on a sack and the Raiders got it back at the KC 18-yard line.

The team only moved seven yards, and a 29-yard field goal from Janikowski made it a 16-6 game just over a minute in.

Kansas City responded with a 10-play, 44-yard drive that saw Succop hit a 52- yard field goal to make it a one-score game with 8:40 to play in the third.

Oakland struck quick to take back a 14-point lead as the sixth play of the 80 yard drive saw Palmer hit Heyward-Bey for a 32-yard score and a 23-9 lead with 5:40 left in the third.

A 32-yard field goal from Janikowski with 8:14 to play in the fourth put the game away, but the Chiefs did get a late touchdown on a 10-yard TD catch by Dexter McCluster.

"We were in the game and then some thing happened that turned the game around," Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said. "In the second half, particularly, we weren't able to come back and get done the things that we needed to do to win the game."
