Recap: Tennessee vs. San Diego

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Jake Locker found Justin Hunter for a 34-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds left to lift the Tennessee Titans to a 20-17 win over the San Diego Chargers.

Trailing 17-13, the Titans took over at their own 6-yard line with 2:05 remaining, with Locker completing a series of short passes to get into San Diego territory.

On 3rd-and-6 from the Chargers' 45, Locker connected with Nate Washington for an 11-yard gain and quickly spiked the ball with 27 seconds left. After he overthrew Damian Williams in the end zone, the Tennessee quarterback found Hunter in the front right corner of the end zone for the go-ahead score.

"I attacked the ball," said Hunter of the catch. "This is a very happy ending. I was sitting on the sideline and just reminiscing on the pass I should have had in the first half."

San Diego had one last chance, but couldn't get into field goal range before the clock expired.

Locker finished the game 23-for-37 passing for 299 yards and also ran for 68 yards and a score for the Titans (2-1), who fell to the Houston Texans in overtime last week.

San Diego's Philip Rivers was 20-for-24 passing for 198 yards and a touchdown, Antonio Gates caught five passes for 55 yards and a score and Ronnie Brown added a rushing TD for the Chargers (1-2), who have lost their two games by a combined six points.

"Too many mistakes. They made one more play than we did," said Chargers head coach Mike McCoy. "We just didn't finish the game. Little mistakes killed us, no excuses."

Rivers' 7-yard touchdown pass to Gates in the back of the end zone gave the Chargers an early lead. The score was set up by Gates' one-handed catch along the right sideline for a 17-yard gain three plays earlier.

Tennessee got on the board two minutes into the second quarter on Rob Bironas' 20-yard field goal that capped an 11-play, 90-yard march.

After punting back to Tennessee on its next touch, San Diego took over with excellent field position after the Titans' Brett Kern couldn't handle the snap on a punt and was forced to cover the ball on his team's 30.

The Chargers got down inside the 10-yard line and Rivers found Eddie Royal in the end zone, but the play was called back for offensive pass interference on an illegal pick. Rivers also received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play after arguing with the officials, knocking San Diego back to the 30-yard line. The Chargers ultimately settled for Nick Novak's 44-yard field goal to go up 10-3.

Tennessee tied the game on the ensuing drive. Locker escaped pressure several times on the series, finding receivers downfield to keep moving the chains. The former first-round pick ran it in from seven yards out to cap the 8-play, 76-yard trek with 1:08 remaining in the half.

The Chargers drove into field goal range in the closing seconds of the first half, but Bernard Pollard blocked Novak's 38-yard attempt to keep it a 10-10 tie at the break.

Brown's 1-yard TD plunge gave the Chargers a 17-10 edge with 2:42 left in the third quarter. Rivers connected with Ladarius Green for a 34-yard gain before later finding Gates for a 14-yard completion down to the 1-yard line. After Brown was stood up on the goal line and Rivers' pass to Vincent Brown was batted down in the end zone, Ronnie Brown bulled his way across the goal line.

Bironas' 37-yard field goal with 6:07 left capped an 11-play, 43-yard march that pulled Tennessee within 17-13.
